</p><p>Pendant la <a href="Grande_D%C3%A9pression" title="Grande Dépression">Grande Dépression</a>, il est étudiant à l'<a href="Universit%C3%A9_de_Washington" title="Université de Washington">université de Washington</a> en ingénierie et se qualifie pour le huit à Berlin où les États-Unis battent l'Italie et l'Allemagne en finale.
